UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — With the holiday season fast approaching, Penn State students, faculty and staff who purchase or receive new personal devices are reminded to follow the Microsoft Multifactor Authentication (MFA) and mobile id+ card enrollment instructions.
If you have a new phone, smartwatch or tablet, Penn State IT highly recommends enrolling a backup device and verifying your recovery email. Please read the following steps to avoid security access issues with your Penn State account.
I am getting a new phone with the same phone number.
1. Login to Microsoft My Sign-Ins with your Penn State Account.
2. Add MFA backup options by selecting alternative authentication methods. For more information, visit Microsoft Support.
I have a new phone with the same phone number.
1. Redownload the Microsoft Authenticator app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
2. If you previously selected backup options, reactivate the Microsoft Authenticator app on your new phone. You will be prompted to verify your identity through call or text.
I am getting or have a new phone with a different phone number.
1. If you can access your old device and it is still enrolled, you can manage your MFA settings and add a sign-in method. To learn more, read Penn State Account holders can add another device for MFA.
2. If you cannot access your old device, you must enroll your new phone. Please read Replace My MFA Enrolled Phone with a New Phone or submit a Get Help ticket through Penn State’s IT Help Portal.
Penn State Mobile id+ Card
1. Visit id.psu.edu/deactivate to remove your old credentials from the Transact eAccounts app.
2. Follow the setup instructions on idcard.psu.edu/mobile to enroll your new device. You can also view instructions for managing your Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Samsung Wallet.
