UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State students, faculty and staff who are getting a new phone or have a new personal device such as a smartwatch or tablet are reminded to follow the enrollment instructions for Microsoft Multifactor Authentication (MFA) and Penn State’s Mobile id+ Card.
To help community members avoid security access issues with their Penn State accounts, Penn State IT highly recommends that anyone with new devices complete the following steps.
I am getting a new phone with the same phone number.
1. Login to Microsoft My Sign-Ins with your Penn State Account.
2. Add MFA backup options by selecting alternative authentication methods like call or text. For more information, visit Microsoft Support.
I have a new phone with the same phone number.
1. Re-download the Microsoft Authenticator app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
2. If you previously selected backup options, reactivate the Microsoft Authenticator app on your new phone. You will be prompted to verify your identity through call or text.
3. If you have not selected MFA backup options, you will need to enroll your new device. Follow these MFA enrollment instructions or submit a Get Help ticket through Penn State’s IT Help Portal.
I am getting or have a new phone with a different phone number.
1. If you have access to your old device and it is still enrolled, you can manage your MFA settings and add a sign-in method. To learn more, read Penn State Account holders can add another device for MFA.
2. If you cannot access your old device, you will need to enroll your new phone. Follow these MFA enrollment instructions or submit a Get Help ticket through Penn State’s IT Help Portal.
Penn State Mobile id+ Card
If you have a mobile id+ card, visit id.psu.edu/deactivate to remove your old credentials from Transact and enroll your new device. To learn more about troubleshooting, visit the mobile id+ card website. You can also view instructions for managing your Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Samsung Wallet.
