UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Five faculty members in the Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology have been selected as recipients of the college’s 2022 Dean’s Circle of Teaching Excellence award.

This year’s recipients, selected by Andrew Sears, dean of the College of IST, are:

  • Fred Fonseca, associate professor and professor-in-charge of social and organizational informatics

  • Ed Glantz, teaching professor and director of master’s programs

The initiative, which launched in 2019, recognizes outstanding contributions faculty have made through teaching-focused activities in support of the College of IST’s academic mission, including classroom instruction, student mentorship, curriculum development and other activities at the undergraduate or graduate levels.

“We are grateful that our students learn alongside experienced and compassionate teachers,” said Sears. “These honored individuals represent the best IST has to offer – those who not only bring their best to the classroom but also provide meaningful support, inspiration and leadership to students and colleagues.”

Fonseca and Glantz also earned this distinction in 2019; Hozza was recognized in both 2019 and 2020. The awards were not presented in 2021 due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
