UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State's Smeal College of Business is partnering with Penn State’s Office of Annual Giving for #GivingTuesday. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday encourages philanthropy through the power of social media.

Members of the Smeal College community are invited to participate in the Enviva Partners, LP Sustainability Challenge on Nov. 29. The college has chosen the Smeal College of Business Sustainability Fund as the beneficiary of this year’s campaign.

To bolster the college’s efforts, Enviva Partners, LP Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Steve Reeves, a member of Smeal’s Board of Visitors, has pledged a 1:1 match to the Sustainability Fund up to $10,000 in total donations.

“Sustainability is at the core of Enviva’s business model. This year’s #GivingTuesday challenge honors that spirit and I am grateful to Steve for his support,” said Michelle Houser, senior director of development and alumni relations at the college.

As a leading business school, Smeal is strategically focused on making the business case for sustainability, providing students with the knowledge and perspective to develop comprehensive and sustainable solutions to today’s most pressing challenges. The Sustainability Fund will support Smeal in its efforts to inspire, educate, and equip students to use the power of business to create a more socially and environmentally sustainable world.

“Sustainable business practices will be increasingly important as the world’s population continues to grow,” Houser said. “The Sustainability Fund will provide funding to support programs that are helping our students develop into leaders who will impact the world.”

By contributing to the Enviva Partners, LP Sustainability Challenge, friends and alumni of the college can support a variety of activities surrounding sustainability, including case competitions, speaker events, career fairs, resource kits to enhance classroom learning, and travel to sustainability-related conferences.
