UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Starting Monday, March 31, all new employees and graduate assistants/fellows at Penn State will begin utilizing a virtual, remote process to complete the Form I-9, a federally required part of the onboarding process. Penn State Human Resources will offer 10-minute sessions Monday through Friday for virtual appointments through the data and onboarding team.
In-person appointments will be offered in the James M. Elliott Building in downtown State College and the 331 Building at Innovation Park through the end of April. Appointment availability may vary as the process transitions to fully virtual. To schedule an appointment, check the available dates and times online.
In August 2024, Penn State HR began the transition to virtual Form I-9 completion with the Commonwealth Campuses and has since transitioned all non-University Park locations and fully remote employees to the virtual process.
The change comes after U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services published a revised version of Form I-9 in 2023, in which the U.S. Department of Homeland Security enabled employers enrolled in E-Verify to utilize a virtual procedure. Penn State has since shifted internal processes to assist with ease of Form I-9 completion for employees and graduate assistants/fellows.
