Penn State Human Resources provides financial resources to employees

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Human Resources is reminding employees about several free resources to help them manage and save money, and build a secure, stable financial future.

Resources from TIAA

TIAA administers Penn State’s supplemental retirement plans and offers tools, videos and professional advisers to help Penn State employees and their families save, manage and protect their finances and prepare for retirement.

TIAA provides webinars on topics such as market/economic updates, investing with confidence, understanding health savings accounts, early- to late-career financial guides, creating and maintaining a budget, and much more. Additionally, TIAA gives Penn State employees free access to financial professionals who can explain the retirement plan works, how employees can choose the right amount to contribute via a private appointment and financial planning services. Employees can schedule a one-on-one appointment to speak with a financial consultant by calling 800-842-2252 or contacting TIAA via their website. Employees do not need to participate in TIAA to participate in the webinars.

Penn State is a qualified employer under the U.S. Department of Education’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, meaning many employees can qualify for forgiveness of some or all of their student loan debt. TIAA also allows Penn State Employees to access Savi, its program for PSLF assistance. Savi provides one-on-one support and technology to assist in filing forms, tracking PSLF credits and capping of payments based on income and family size. Some services are available for a nominal fee.

The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center

The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center hosts twice-monthly webinars from Money Counts: A Financial Literacy Series. Employees can learn more about topics such as Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), debt management, credit cards, salary negotiation and much more. Attendees are asked to register in advance. Self-study modules are also available for each webinar topic, allowing participants to work at their own pace. Attending webinars are available in Penn State’s Learning Resource Network.

Departments can also request presentations and workshops through the Sokolov-Miller Family Center at no cost. Presentations are offered year-round, and can be delivered in person, via Zoom, or hybrid. Departments can also request one of two hands-on workshops through the Center: “Financial Foundations Workshop Series” and “Salary Negotiation Workshop.”

The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center also coordinates the full schedule of upcoming webinars from both TIAA and from PNC Bank. See the full schedule and register for upcoming Penn State, TIAA and PNC webinars.
