UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Louis Magliaro, senior vice president and group publisher at The BTN Group, the corporate travel publishing arm of Northstar Travel Group, has joined the Penn State School of Hospitality Management (SHM) Industry Advisory Board.
Northstar Travel vice president joins hospitality management advisory board
Magliaro is responsible for strategic planning, marketing, sales, conferences and events, digital, editorial and custom content at The BTN Group, which serves an audience of more than 100,000 corporate travel managers and meeting professionals through its three publications: Business Travel News, Travel Procurement and The Beat. Magliaro has more than 20 years of travel media experience, having worked at Nielsen, VNU, Conde Nast and Miller Freeman, where he began his publishing career in 1994.
“I am honored and humbled to join the SHM Industry Advisory Board, and I look forward to contributing and helping advance SHM’s future growth and continued success,” said Magliaro.
Magliaro added that Penn State’s School of Hospitality Management is recognized nationally among the hospitality industry, and it is no surprise students are in high demand when they are ready to enter the workforce, which speaks to the great quality and caliber of the program.
The SHM Industry Advisory Board was created to connect the school and students with industry leaders, to not only assist faculty and students in keeping abreast of current industry trends, but also to facilitate research and education partnerships, as well as further student career opportunities. Board members are experts in their fields and include senior and executive leaders of some of the world’s premier hospitality brands.
“Louis’ position in the world of travel and hospitality publishing means he has unparalleled insight into the latest hospitality trends,” said Donna Quadri-Felitti, associate professor and Marvin Ashner director of the Penn State School of Hospitality Management. “Louis, with his long career working not only in publishing, but also for top hospitality brands in marketing and sales roles, is a very welcome addition to our esteemed industry advisory board.”
Magliaro joined Northstar Travel Media in 2010 as part of the acquisition of ProMedia.travel, of which he was a co-founder in 2006. He also spent six years in sales and marketing roles for Marriott Hotels, Crowne Plaza Hotels and Millennium Hotels in New York City, and his first industry job was as a room-service waiter during college. Magliaro holds a bachelor of science degree in hospitality and tourism management and a master's of marketing, both from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He lives with his wife, Colette, and two children, Mariann and Louis, in Florham Park, New Jersey.
