Penn State alumnus Kevin Frick, 1991 health policy and administration (HPA), will deliver the 24th annual Stanley P. Mayers Endowed Lecture, “Purposeful Lifelong Learning: A Key to Professional Success,” at 6 p.m. on April 7, in 117 HUB-Robeson Center at Penn State’s University Park campus.
Frick currently serves as a professor at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior, he also served as the vice dean for education. He will discuss how the health care system needs strong leaders and discuss how the undergraduate program in HPA prepares individuals to be lifelong learners. The lecture, hosted by the Penn State Department of Health Policy and Administration, is free and open to the public.
"I hope that the audience will come away with an idea of what is important to keep up on like technology, diversity, ethics and the different ways in which a graduate might seek further training such as graduate programs, certificates and continuing education,” said Frick.
In addition to a career in academia, Frick has maintained close connections with the Penn State HPA program and the University. Currently, he serves as a mentor for the College of Health and Human Development Alumni Mentoring Program, guest lecturer, and on occasion is involved with the Schreyer Honors College. He has also given a TEDx talk on successful mentorship.
“I always enjoy meeting current undergraduates and hearing about their dreams and visions for how to be a proactive alumni, how to make their communities better, and how to make the state, country or world better. I hope to reaffirm and expand what the graduating students are already thinking of for their initial and long-term continuing education and development.”
The Mayers Lecture was created in honor of Dr. Stanley P. Mayers Jr., co-founder of Penn State’s undergraduate program in HPA, who retired after a distinguished 26-year career with Penn State. Mayers served as the head of the Department of Health Policy and Administration for nine years and also in roles as associate dean for undergraduate studies and associate dean for academic studies in the College of Health and Human Development.
