Penn State Harrisburg to host event on child advocacy centers, May 23

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — With May being designated as Mental Health and Trauma Awareness Month and in an effort to foster awareness of trauma-informed practices in child abuse cases, Maria Turkson, associate teaching professor of psychology in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Behavioral Sciences and Education, is hosting an event on Child Advocacy Centers on Tuesday, May 23 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Room E311 in the Olmsted Building on campus. The event can also be accessed online via Zoom.

Drew Krantz, behavioral health supervisor at Restoring Hope Trauma Therapy Services & Mental Health Program at UPMC Child Advocacy Center of Central PA, will serve as distinguished speaker. He will discuss the role of child advocacy centers generally, and their use of trauma-informed practices, specifically.
