Fostering a Growth Mindset and Developing a Sense of Belonging in Your Students

Learn from social and educational psychology in this one-part workshop on how instructors can foster growth mindsets in their students, and how that in turn can foster greater student motivation, achievement, and belonging. What factors hold back or push students forward in learning and performing the best they can? How do students react to successes and challenges? This week is the final week you can register to be a part of the 2024-25 Penn State Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, hosted by the J. Jeffrey and Ann Marie Fox Graduate School! Any graduate student can compete, and any community member can serve as judge in the first round. Register by Oct. 25 to share your research and compete to earn recognition and a cash prize.

Focus on Pronunciation: Intonation in American English – EPPIC Workshop

In this session, you will understand how and why intonation — the musical “flow” of English — is as important as individual sounds, learn common intonation patterns that may be useful in your spoken English, analyze a speech to “see” how English is spoken by fluent speakers in an American context, and practice new strategies and learn about resources for self-study. Supporting Family Caregivers in STEMM: Graduate Student and Post-Doc Caregivers Webinar

Caregiving is a universal experience--whether providing care for children or aging relatives or receiving care when ailing, everyone at some point will be touched by caregiving. And yet, caregiving remains stigmatized and under-supported in academia, with particular challenges for graduate students and post-docs who face greater hurdles to accessing and advocating for their needs. Building on the recent release of a National Academies report on Supporting Family Caregivers in STEMM, this webinar will unpack the caregiving experiences of post-doctoral scholars and graduate students and examine what institutions can do to better support these populations.
