Upcoming events supporting graduate student success, Nov. 13-19

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Whether you are interested in a STEM workshop on finding or requesting standards or you’d like to learn about how to assess company culture during the job hunt, graduate students can find events for those topics and more between Nov. 13-19 designed to support their success at Penn State.

Talking about the Student Educational Experience Questionnaire (SEEQ) 
Hosted by the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence

Students can bring questions about Penn State's Student Educational Experience Questionnaire, which is administered during weeks 13 and 14 of the semester. The event’s guest is Denise Solomon, distinguished professor of communications arts and sciences, who was co-chair of the Student Feedback Implementation Subcommittee of the Joint Implementation Taskforce for the Faculty Senate's Teaching Assessment Framework. The event will be moderated by Angela Linse, associate dean and executive director of the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence. Register for the SEEQ event here

STEM Libraries Workshop: Finding or Requesting Standards

Join the University Libraries for the final session of their Fall 2024 STEM Libraries Workshop Series. The workshop will be available online and in the new Engineering Library on the second floor of the Engineering Collaborative Research and Education (ECoRE) Building, and will focus on finding or requesting standards. Assessing Company Culture - Accelerate to Industry

Company culture is not one size fits all. Attendees of this final workshop of the fall Accelerate to Industry Series will discuss how to find an organization that is compatible with their values. Registration is required to attend the Assessing Company Culture session.  

This workshop is part of the series, Accelerate to Industry (A2i) Job Search Strategies: The Essentials Series. The A2i Job Search Strategies module is specifically geared toward graduate and professional students interested in careers outside of academia. The Essentials Series this semester is designed to give students a broad understanding of career exploration, the job search process, and the tools needed to succeed. 

Writing About Data and Results in Research Papers - EPPIC Workshop 
Hosted by the English for Professional Purposes Intercultural Center (EPPIC)

In this workshop, students will learn useful language for data commentary (organization, transitions, verb choices, and more), review effective highlighting statements, and explore ways to make and support claims based on your original data. Learn more on the EPPIC website

Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil 
Hosted by the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity 
Friday, Nov. 15, 5:30-7 p.m. 
Flex Theater, HUB-Robeson Center 

Join the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity to honor and remember those who have been killed because of anti-transgender and non-binary bigotry, hatred and violence. The event will be saying the names of those who have been killed this past year because of their perceived gender identity and/or expression. Students can join the community for this moving ceremony, followed by a reception in Room LL011 of the HUB-Robeson Center.
