Penn State Emeritus Academy welcomes Distinguished Spring 2024 Inductees

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Emeritus Academy has announced the induction of 16 distinguished faculty members into its prestigious ranks this Spring, 2024. These esteemed individuals have demonstrated exemplary dedication to academia, research, creative work, and the Penn State community throughout their illustrious careers.

The new inductees represent a wide range of disciplines, underscoring the diverse academic excellence that Penn State is known for. Their careers have not only contributed significantly to their fields but have also enriched the educational experiences of countless students.

The Spring 2024 inductees into the Penn State Emeritus Academy are:

  • Abhay Ashtekar, Atherton Professor and Evan Pugh Professor Emeritus of Physics, Eberly College of Science, University Park.
  • Bernard Badiali, associate professor emeritus of education (curriculum and supervision), College of Education, University Park.
  • Mel Billingsley, professor emeritus of pharmacology and professor emeritus of biotechnology and entrepreneurship, Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey.
  • William Easterling, professor emeritus of geography and dean emeritus of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, University Park.
  • James G. Ferry, Stanley Person Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Eberly College of Science, University Park.
  • Grace Hampton, professor emerita of art, art education, and integrative arts, College of Arts and Architecture, University Park.
  • Ross C. Hardison, T. Ming Chu Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Eberly College of Science, University Park.
  • Colleen E. Kelley,  associate professor emerita of rhetoric and communication, School of Humanities and Social Science, Penn State Behrend.
  • Huaguang Lu, clinical professor emeritus of avian virology, College of Agricultural Sciences, University Park.
  • David Macauley, associate professor emeritus of philosophy and environmental studies, Arts and Humanities, Penn State Brandywine.
  • Peter Swan, associate professor emeritus of logistics and operations management, School of Business Administration, Penn State Harrisburg.
  • David Vandenbergh, professor emeritus of biobehavioral health, College of Health and Human Development, University Park.
  • Molly Wertheimer, professor emerita of communication arts and sciences and women's studies, Arts and Humanities, Penn State Hazleton.
  • Nicholas Winograd, Evan Pugh University Professor Emeritus of Chemistry, Eberly College of Science, University Park.
  • Dan Willis, professor emeritus of architecture, College of Arts and Architecture, University Park.
  • Jerry Zolten, professor emeritus of communication arts and sciences and integrative arts, Division of Arts and Humanities, Penn State Altoona.

The Penn State Emeritus Academy is dedicated to fostering a vibrant community of retired faculty who continue contributing to the University's mission through mentoring, teaching, and research. The academy provides a platform for members to engage in intellectual and creative activities that contribute to the Penn State community and beyond. Academy members hold the title of "Academy Professor."
