OPAIR announces grant support for program assessment activities

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Office of Planning, Assessment, and Institutional Research (OPAIR) announces the opening of the learning outcomes assessment grant program for 2023 with a call for proposals. Grants of up to $3,000 provide support for efforts to enhance student learning through the learning outcomes assessment process. Eligible programs include any undergraduate, graduate, or certificate programs offered by Penn State.

A high-quality assessment process determines if students are meeting program learning expectations and then uses that information to drive continuous academic improvement. The process should provide faculty with opportunities to collaboratively determine the knowledge, skills and habits of mind graduates gain from their programs, collect evidence of that learning, and address any identified weaknesses. Assessment grants can be applied to any step in this process.

To apply:

Step 1 (optional): Applicants are encouraged to discuss proposals with their assessment liaison before applying to help expedite their application process.
Step 2: By Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022: Submit a completed application. The description should include the impact of the grant on program learning outcomes assessment or student learning.
Step 3: By Friday, Nov. 4, 2022: OPAIR will announce funding decisions.

The program is administered by OPAIR and funded by the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence. Grant applications for the 2023 award cycle are due Oct. 1. The award period is from Jan. 1, 2023, through June 30, 2023.
