UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Dibya Mishra has been named the summer 2024 student marshal for the Penn State College of Engineering. Mishra will receive her bachelor of science degree in computer science with a business certificate from the Smeal College of Business at the University’s commencement ceremony, which will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Bryce Jordan Center at University Park.
Student marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.
“When I learned that I had been selected as my college’s student marshal, I was pleasantly surprised,” Mishra said. “I feel both humbled and honored. It was incredibly gratifying to see that my hard work and dedication over the past few years have finally paid off.”
Mishra attended high school at Sri Chaitanya Junior Kalasala in Hyderabad, India, before attending Penn State. She received numerous awards and honors while at Penn State, including 13 scholarships.
While at Penn State, Mishra worked as a research and development engineering intern at the material and manufacturing division of the Applied Research Lab under the guidance of Paul Winkler, SAP software developmental project lead, and Aaron Spak, department head for the applied enterprise systems. During this internship, she customized workflows to align with project requirements to enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, she worked on user interface development and Adobe content creation to strengthen the digital presence and operational capabilities of Penn State’s SAP student interest group, which equips students to use SAP’s enterprise resource planning software in their professional careers.
Mishra also worked as a cybersecurity intern at Oshkosh Corporation, an IT application specialist at Penn State Auxiliary and Business Services, a data analytics robotic process automation intern for Penn State’s SIMBA system under the guidance of Julie Bressler, then SIMBA's BI manager, a marketing intern at Ripple Match and a multi-year learning assistant in an Object-Oriented Programming course in JAVA.
During her college years, she was involved in various organizations, often at the leadership level. She served as the treasurer for both the SAP Student Interest Group and Penn State’s Badminton Club. Additionally, she was the captain of the DevPSU Startup within the Association of Computing Machinery Club. She also participated in Women in Engineering events and competed as a badminton player during her first and second years at the University.
After graduation, Mishra plans to pursue a career in cybersecurity, focusing on identity and access management, before going to graduate school within the next few years.
“My internship at Oshkosh Corporation sparked a deep interest in this field, and I aim to continue developing my expertise in security protocols and threat mitigation. Additionally, I aspire to leverage my skills in software development and data analysis to contribute to innovative solutions in the tech industry,” Mishra said.
