28 new faculty members join the College of Engineering

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Twenty-eight new faculty members have joined the Penn State College of Engineering since the end of the spring semester. The 17 tenured or tenure-line members and 11 non-tenure-line members represent 11 units and departments and include one dean and two new department heads. 

“We welcome the new faculty members to the College of Engineering, where we are growing in both numbers and in impact,” said Anthony Atchley, acting dean of the College of Engineering. “They bring expertise in a wide range of strategic priorities and are already collaborating across the college and Penn State. There is no doubt they will make innovative contributions to the college and their fields, all while mentoring the next generation of engineers and helping us build an inclusive engineering community.” 

Tenure-line faculty who joined the college in summer or early fall 2022:   

  • Xiaogang Hu, Dorothy Foehr Huck and J. Lloyd Huck Chair in Neurorehabilitation and associate professor of mechanical engineering. Hu is also affiliated with the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences and the Center for Neural Engineering, as well as the College of Health and Human Development’s Department of Kinesiology and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. 

  • Hosna Jabbari, assistant professor of computer science and engineering 

  • Christine Kirchhoff, associate professor of law, policy, and engineering in the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs 

  • Yunting Liu, assistant professor of electrical engineering 

  • Kiwan Maeng, assistant professor of computer science and engineering 

  • David Mazyck, head of the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs 

  • Vincent Meunier, P. B. Breneman Chair and Department Head and professor of engineering science and mechanics 

  • Shagufta Mehnaz, assistant professor of computer science and engineering 

  • Dipanjan Pan, Dorothy Foehr Huck & J. Lloyd Huck Chair Professor in Nanomedicine, professor of materials science and engineering, professor of nuclear engineering 

  • Robert Rabb, associate dean of education and professor in the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs 

  • Anirudh Subramanyam, Charles and Enid Schneider Early Career Assistant Professor in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering 

  • Abhinav Verma, assistant professor of computer science and engineering 

  • Tao Zhou, assistant professor of engineering science and mechanics 

Non-tenure-line faculty who joined the college in summer or early fall 2022:   

  • Rohini Abhyankar, researcher in the Leonhard Center 

  • Sachin Gore, assistant teaching professor of mechanical engineering, director of undergraduate studies 

  • Zachary Gray, assistant research professor of engineering science and mechanics. He is also affiliated with the Center for Nanotechnology Education and Utilization. 

  • Ahmed Khalafallah, teaching professor of civil and environmental engineering 

  • Peter Kovacs, assistant research professor of biomedical engineering 

  • Jilang Miao, assistant research professor of nuclear engineering 

  • Parikshit Moitra, assistant research professor of nuclear engineering 

  • Vishal Saravade, assistant teaching professor of engineering science and mechanics. He is also affiliated with the Center for Nanotechnology Education and Utilization.  

  • Marta Tomaszkiewicz, assistant research professor of biomedical engineering 

  • Tianliang Yu, assistant teaching professor in the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs 

  • Yuwei Zhang, researcher in the Department of Biomedical Engineering
