UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State's College of Education share recent research and career achievements.

  • Gilberto Q. Conchas, the Wayne K. & Anita Woolfolk Hoy Endowed Chair of Education, authored a recently published book, “The Color of Success 2.0: Race and Transformative Pathways for High-Achieving Urban Youth.” The book is a follow-up to Conchas’ award-winning 2006 book, “The Color of Success: Race and High-Achieving Urban Youth.”

  • Erica Frankenberg, professor of education and demography, co-authored a chapter, “Voluntary Integration as a Legacy of Brown: Promise and Challenge” in “Reimagining School Integration: Possibilities for the Future.”

  • Sean Hembrick , a doctoral student in higher education, has been named as the August 2024 Holmes Scholar of the Month by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

  • Aiesha Lee, assistant professor of education, is quoted in an op-ed, “No One Wants To Talk About Racial Trauma. Why My Family Broke Our Silence.” in California Healthline.

  • Emily Olsen, a doctoral candidate in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on science education, has being selected as one of 17 graduate students from Penn State who have been awarded research fellowships for 2024 from the Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium.

  • Dylan Paré, assistant professor of education, has been selected for the Teaching and Learning Technologies Faculty Advisory Committee for the 2024-25 academic year. The committee is pivotal in guiding TLT on integrating technology within teaching and learning at Penn State.

  • Andrea Ragonese, a doctoral student in science education and an associate teaching professor in Penn State's School of Engineering Design and Innovation, has been named an Engineering Unleashed Fellow for 2024. The 2024 Engineering Unleashed Fellows are a cohort of 31 faculty members from 27 institutions of higher education across the U.S., following a peer-selection process where they were recognized for their contribution to entrepreneurial engineering education. Ragonese was awarded for her project, "Incorporating Student Voice and Choice in the Engineering Classroom by Utilizing Universal Design for Learning and Inclusive Teaching Styles."
