Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State's College of Education share recent research and career achievements.
- Sarah Asson, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Education Policy Studies, has been invited to participate in the summer 2022 Just Education Policy Scholars Program, held via Zoom. The program is designed for doctoral students and recent graduates who are committed to advancing racial equity and justice education policy and politics.
- Katerina Bodovski, professor of education (educational theory and policy), is lead author of a new article, “Parental Help With Homework in Elementary School: Much Ado About Nothing?” in the Journal of Research in Childhood Education.
- Janice Byrd, assistant professor of education (counselor education), co-authored a paper, “An Antiracist Framework for Evidence-Informed School Counseling Practice” that was published recently in Professional School Counseling.
- John Cheslock, professor of education (higher education), and Kevin Kinser, head of the Department of Education Policy Studies and professor and senior scientist of education (higher education), are co-authors of a policy report, “Examining the OPM: Form, Function, and Policy Implications” that was supported by Arnold Ventures. Additionally, Cheslock and Kinser were interviewed by Arnold Ventures for an article on its website, “Online Program Management Companies: A For-Profit Pocket Within Higher Ed.”
- Sebrina Doyle Fosco, a doctoral fellow in the Department of Education Policy Studies, is the second author on a new paper, “Teacher Candidates’ Perceptions of Emergent Teacher Leadership in Clinically Based Teacher Education” in Action in Teacher Education. Deborah Schussler, professor of education (educational leadership), is a co-author on the paper.
- Erica Frankenberg, professor of education (educational leadership and demography), is quoted in a story by WPVI-TV Philadelphia, “Schools in Philadelphia and Delaware County among the most segregated in the country.” She also was interviewed for an article, “‘Our community’: Magic City Acceptance Academy honors Alabama charter school’s first graduates” on AL.com.
- Kevin Kinser, head of the Department of Education Policy Studies and professor and senior scientist of education (higher education), was interviewed for an article, “Goodwin President Must Retire as Part of DOJ Settlement” by Inside Higher Ed.
- Francesca Lopez, Waterbury Chair in Equity Pedagogy and professor of education (second language education), discusses her recent Educational Psychologist article, "Can educational psychology be harnessed to make changes for the greater good?" in a podcast episode of APA Division 15.
- Paul Morgan, Harry and Marion Eberly Faculty Fellow and professor of education (educational theory and policy), is lead author of a new article, “Sociodemographic Disparities in Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Diagnosis and Overtreatment During Elementary School” in the Journal of Learning Disabilities. In addition, Morgan is co-author on another paper, “Longitudinal Trajectories of Reading and Mathematics Achievement for Students With Learning Disabilities,” also recently published in the Journal of Learning Disabilities.
- Macy Pyres, a master’s degree candidate in educational psychology, was selected as a winner of the 2022 Whiting Indigenous Knowledge Student Research Awards, funded by the M. G. Whiting Endowment for the Advancement of Indigenous Knowledge.
