Heard on campus: Alumna and philanthropist Susan Grove

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On May 10, Penn State Eberly College of Science alumna Susan Grove and her late husband, Cada, were honored with a special ceremony for their support of the college’s Center for Excellence in Science Education, which was renamed the Cada R. and Susan Wynn Grove Center for Excellence in Science Education. The college announced the naming earlier this year in recognition of their significant contributions and support of science education at Penn State. At the ceremony, Grove shared her personal experiences with the center, its importance to Cada and her, and her hope for its future.
 
“It is very much my honor, and I am fairly certain that Cada would be honored too, to provide additional support to the center at this time. My hope is that this support will secure the future of the center and the pursuit of excellence in science teaching and learning can continue at Penn State,” said Grove, a longtime philanthropic supporter of the University. “I am enthused now by what I’m seeing, which is the growing community of faculty, as well as graduate and undergraduate students, in researching about teaching and in sharing the results of those experiments and research.”
 
The naming ceremony culminated a week of the Evidence-Based Teaching Academy, one of the center’s main programs. During the teaching academy members of the academy instructional team share and model research-based teaching approaches used in their classrooms and as a community of practice everyone works to expand and deepen their skills as educators.
