UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Museum Consortium will hold the spring 2023 "Night at the Museums" on April 20. Participating museums on the University Park campus will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. This is a chance for students, staff, faculty and the community to visit a variety of unique and interesting museums across campus for a special evening event. Admittance to the museums is free and open to the public.
On this special evening, you can stroll the lighted pathways of The Arboretum at Penn State, light up the fluorescent mineral exhibit in the EMS Museum & Art Gallery, and stand on the scales in the historic Armsby Calorimeter in the Calorimeter Museum Building. You can also visit the Palmer Museum of Art for "Art After Hours: Going out on a High," visit the Art Alley in the HUB-Robeson Center, discover new plants at the PAC Herbarium, learn about moving museum collections at the Matson Museum of Anthropology, and pose with the Rose Bowl Trophy at the All-Sports Museum.
“These kinds of evening events encourage both those living on and off campus to visit the museums,” said Patti Wood Finkle, collections manager for the Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum & Art gallery. “Visiting these spaces in the evenings gives them a totally different vibe and encourages new experiences. It also gives museum faculty and staff a chance to engage with our visitors, which we do not always have time to do during the day.”
Participating museums include the All-Sports Museum, Arboretum at Penn State, Calorimeter Museum, EMS Museum & Art Gallery, Frost Entomological Museum, HUB-Robeson Art Alley, Matson Museum of Anthropology, Palmer Museum of Art and the PAC Herbarium.
Finkle said, “Meet up with some friends and make an evening of it!”
