UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Angelique Adams, CEO of Angelique Adams Media Solutions, LLC, was awarded the 2022 Charles L. Hosler Alumni Scholar Medal by Penn State’s College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. The award was established in 1992 to recognize the very highest levels of intellectual achievement or academic service attained by those educated in the college. The award is named in honor of Charles L. Hosler, former dean of the college, senior vice president for research, dean of The Graduate School, and professor of meteorology emeritus and Penn State Distinguished Alumnus.

“I’m honored to receive this prestigious award from my academic home,” said Adams. “In the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, I learned the deep technical knowledge that has served me well as a researcher and innovation leader. I also experienced first-hand the leadership tenets that I teach today: be welcoming, treat people with kindness, and believe in them, even if they aren't ready to believe in themselves.”

Adams is a former CIO turned author, speaker, and executive coach, and now serves as CEO of Angelique Adams Media Solutions, LLC, a platform dedicated to helping diverse talent excel in their careers. She received her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1997, her master’s degree in fuel science in 2002 and her doctorate in fuel science in 2004, all from Penn State.

Adams has held top positions in large research-driven companies and has been responsible for technology advances in her field. She spent more than 20 years in corporate research and innovation beginning at Alcoa, where she started as a research technician after receiving her bachelor’s degree. She returned to Alcoa after earning her doctorate and advanced from a research and development engineer through positions of increasing responsibility, ending her time at Alcoa as director of global smelting technology development in the Aluminum Center of Excellence.

She then accepted the position of CIO and R&D officer with Aperam, a multibillion-dollar global player in stainless, electrical and specialty steel markets, and the world’s greenest steel producer. At Aperam, she managed a robust innovation ecosystem with a global team of industry recognized scientists and engineers, and external innovation partnerships with universities, national laboratories, start-ups and customers.

In 2021, after leading hundreds of scientists and engineers around the world, she discovered her true passion is developing people, so she launched Angelique Adams Media Solutions. Her company authors books and creates online courses and coaching programs to help build diverse leaders in STEM. She has authored popular books, including “You’re More Than a Diversity Hire: Women in STEM.”

“Angelique is a prime example of excellence in science leadership,” said Lee Kump, John Leone Dean in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. “We are very proud to call her one of ours and extremely honored to present her with the 2022 Charles L. Hosler Scholar Medal.”
