CTSI TSS Webinar: 'Family- and Peer-based Approaches to Promote Primary Cancer Prevention in Underserved Communities'
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM / November 20, 2024
Join us for our next Translational Science Seminar on Nov. 20 from noon to 1 p.m. Larkin Strong will present "Family- and Peer-based Approaches to Promote Primary Cancer Prevention in Underserved Communities." A theme throughout Strong's work is recognizing that health and health behaviors are embedded within social, physical, economic, and cultural contexts. Strong is interested in developing and evaluating innovative approaches to promote healthy lifestyles with a particular emphasis on physical activity and healthy eating. She works in minority and underserved communities and uses a community-engaged research approach to guide her work. She has been the principal investigator of two R01s to evaluate the effectiveness of dyadic interventions for promoting healthy lifestyle behavior change, including Latino families and inactive, racially/ethnically diverse women. In addition, she directs the Community Scientist Program, an inter-institutional resource that connects researchers with diverse community stakeholders to facilitate community input into the research process.
The TSS seminar series presents practical information related to clinical and translational topics, with the goal of exposing participants to contemporary issues and tools that can accelerate the translation of research to benefit human health.
