UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Kings Return, an a cappella ensemble known for its skill in stairwell acoustics, will make its Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State debut at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in the School of Music Recital Hall.

A portion of the program will feature singers from Penn State vocal ensembles.

Kings Return’s claim to fame is transforming a fine-tuned urban echo chamber into a performance space. The Dallas-based vocal quartet — Gabe Kunda, Vaughn Faison, J. E. McKissic and Jamall Williams — gained prominence in 2020 after a video of the group singing a Gregorian chant in a vacant stairwell went viral.

“I think anytime anybody goes into some type of, like, echo-y chamber, you’re just kind of like, this is really cool,” Kunda said in a 2021 interview with NPR. “I think as musicians, the inclination is to definitely sing something.”

The ensemble released its debut album, “Rove,” in August.
