UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As part of an ongoing commitment to strengthen its relationship with the Penn State community, University Police and Public Safety (UPPS) has published its new Transparency and Accountability Initiative, which provides a detailed overview of police training, data, policies and more.
Outlined at police.psu.edu, the public now has access to many UPPS policies and detailed arrest data, as well as other important information related to police operations at Penn State. This new portion of the UPPS website was developed over the course of several months as department administrators compiled relevant data from 22 Penn State campuses and worked to make available other key information to the public through an easy-to-use online format.
“The UPPS Transparency and Accountability Initiative is an example of the department’s dedication to being responsive to the Penn State community and the ongoing dialogue regarding equity and justice,” said David Gray, senior vice president for Finance and Business. “This initiative shows that UPPS is listening to the community and it provides the public with the data and tools needed to better understand police operations and a means to provide feedback.”
The website will be updated on an annual basis, or more frequently as needed, to provide recent information to the community.
“We hope the Accountability and Transparency Initiative demonstrates that UPPS is committed to action,” said UPPS Associate Vice President Charlie Noffsinger. “We know the work is not yet done, as we anticipate more efforts related to training, recruitment and more, but we also know that making this essential information available to the public is a positive step in the right direction.”
