UNIVERSITY PARK. Pa Transportation Services has announced service changes for summer 2024 at the University Park campus.

Parking changes

All core (Brown, Green, Red, Silver, Yellow) faculty/staff permits will also be valid at the Nittany and West decks beginning Monday, May 6, through Friday, Aug. 16.

Campus and Community Transit Changes

CATA will run its reduced service schedule from Monday, May 6 through Wednesday, Aug. 21, which will include Blue Loop service Monday through Saturday with no Sunday service. There will be no White Loop or Red Link service during this time.

Both Campus Shuttle routes (via College Avenue and via Beaver Avenue) will operate at full service during the summer.

CATA will also introduce several changes to its scheduled fixed route community service for the summer service period:

  • N, V, and R routes – During weekdays, the frequency of these routes will improve from every 40 minutes to every 30 minutes, with a service change on the R route which will now service Stratford Drive and CATO Park.
  • VN Trial Route – This route will serve downtown State College via Beaver Avenue, the Bryce Jordan Center, Toftrees, Vairo Boulevard, North Atherton Street, Colonnade Way, Martin Street, and the Heights on Sundays with a frequency of every 35 minutes.
    • The VN route will be filling in stops on the V and H routes that previously had no Sunday service.
  • New Summer Community Route – CATA is launching a new route, starting May 6, that will stop at the Welch Pool, 2000 Degrees, and the State Theatre.

Eisenhower Deck construction to limit deck access beginning May 6

To accommodate required work related to last summer’s Eisenhower Road sinkhole, the Eisenhower Deck will close to most vehicles beginning Monday, May 6.

Crews will complete the disassembly and reassembly of precast concrete elements to install micro piles and a new foundation where the settlement occurred adjacent to the sinkhole remediated last summer on Eisenhower Road. This requires closure of the ramp closest to the work which will impact deck operations and parking. Work will begin Monday, May 6, and is expected to continue through late August. During this time, approximately 20% of spaces will remain available for use and a significantly altered traffic pattern will exist within the deck, to include the entry lanes being used for entry and exit.

The Yellow F surface lot and Eisenhower Visitor Lot will also be closed during this work. Parking spaces for the University Pharmacy will be relocated to spaces located in front of the Bank of America Career Services Building on Eisenhower Road.

No Eisenhower Deck access for most permit holders this summer

Except for ROO, LOO, core (Brown, Green, Red, Silver, Yellow) permit holders with a state-issued ADA parking placard, and a select number of Yellow F permit holders who successfully register for a limited number of supplementary permits for summer Eisenhower Deck parking, Penn State permit holders will not have access to Eisenhower Deck at any time beginning Monday, May 6, including evening/weekend hours. ParkMobile daily reservations and zone parking will also be unavailable beginning on that date. Any unauthorized vehicles parked at Eisenhower Deck will be subject to ticketing and/or towing at the owner’s expense.

Law School commencement parking on May 11

Eisenhower Deck will temporarily reopen on Saturday, May 11, to accommodate parking for the Penn State Law 2024 Commencement Ceremony. All vehicles parking there that day must exit the deck by midnight.

Transportation Services office front desk relocation

The front counter of the Transportation Services Office will be temporarily relocated to the Bryce Jordan Center Ticket Office along Curtin Road due to office renovations from Monday, May 6, through approximately Monday, July 1.
