UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. —There’s a new alternative on Penn State’s University Park campus when it comes to convenient, on-the-go snack and lunch options.
The Bank of America Career Services Center, on the corner of Bigler and Eisenhower roads, now features a Smart Market — a self-checkout, mini convenience store that offers a wide variety of fresh foods, snacks and drinks. Featuring almost 700 square feet of shopping and dining space and including a Starbucks fresh-ground coffee station, the Smart Market Career Café is the first of its kind at Penn State.
The Smart Market, located in the lobby of Career Services, makes shopping simple, fast and secure, while offering plenty of tasty and nutritious options. Selections include fresh sandwiches and salads, beverages, and snacks. Customers can find favorite brands, including Pepsi, Frito, Kellogg’s, Nabisco, Otis Spunkmeyer, and many more. The coffee station serves up premium Starbucks coffee, ground and brewed fresh by the cup.
The market is open during the Career Services Center’s hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“Career Services is excited to be the pilot for the Smart Market Career Café on campus,” said Bob Orndorff, director of Career Services, a division of Student Affairs. “The convenience and quality of the food and beverage options are a valuable asset to our students, employers and visitors.”
To shop the Smart Market, customers simply use a credit card, LionCash+, or meal points to access food and beverage selections. Frequent shoppers can set up an account at www.SmartMkt.com, through the SmartMarket app, or at the Smart Market’s main kiosk. With an account, users can access transaction history, make account updates, and reload funds online 24/7.
The Smart Market system tracks shoppers’ selections using infrared technology. When finished shopping, customers can either visit the main kiosk to review their order and print a receipt or simply get on their way.
