Sexual assault prevention and response videos available for campus community

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A series of sexual assault prevention and response videos are available for classroom and community use this fall.

Made possible by “It’s On Us PA” grant funding acquired by the University, these videos can be used by faculty and staff in classes or other group settings to increase awareness of the issues behind sexual assault on campus. The accompanying learning activities encourage discussion among students, and can be found on the Office of Sexual Misconduct Prevention & Response website.

Office of Sexual Misconduct Prevention & Response staff can help facilitate discussions or answer questions about the videos.

“Our goal for the videos was to increase awareness not only on where to report [a case of sexual misconduct], but also of the offices and resources that are available to students,” said Amy Cotner, Title IX education and programming coordinator.

WPSU Penn State produced the videos with guidance from Penn State and community partners, including the Gender Equity Center, the Centre County Women’s Resource Center, the Student Affairs Research and Assessment Office, Residence Life, the Office of Student Orientation and Transition Programs, and the Faculty Senate Special Joint Committee on First-Year Students' Well-Being and Safety.

“What’s great about these videos is they can be used anywhere and by anyone in the Penn State community,” Cotner said. “We hope they become resources that can be used in the classroom and at campus events throughout Penn State, including the Commonwealth Campuses.”

Pennsylvania was the first state to debut an “It’s On Us” campaign when Gov. Tom Wolf launched the program in January 2016. “It’s On Us” aims to increase awareness, education and resources that combat sexual assault in schools, colleges and universities.

The Office of Sexual Misconduct Prevention & Response operates under Penn State Student Affairs. For more information, visit their website.
