Screening, discussion of MLK documentary 'At the River I Stand' set for April 4

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On April 4, the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, the Penn State School of Labor and Employment Relations will hold a film screening and community discussion of the film “At the River I Stand.” The screening and discussion will take place at 5 p.m. in 112 Kern Building at University Park.

“At the River I Stand” details King’s last campaign to win humane wages for black sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee. Niki vonLockette, associate professor of labor and employment relations, who is teaching the course “Class Wars, Racial Conflict and the Battle for Economic Opportunity,” will moderate a community dialogue immediately following the screening in which audience members will have an opportunity to discuss their reactions to the film and the ways in which its lessons remain relevant today.

This event is part of the Penn State College of Liberal Arts’ yearlong series “Remembering ’68: Moments of Change.” To learn more, visit 1968.psu.edu.
