Reminder: Free speech and free expression website provides useful info, resources

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As the fall semester progresses, students, faculty, staff and visitors can find information about their rights and responsibilities under the First Amendment by visiting freespeech.psu.edu, a website launched by Penn State to provide information and resources on free speech and expression on campus.

The free speech and free expression website includes:

  • The University’s overarching statement on free speech and freedom of expression.

  • A downloadable primer on the First Amendment.

  • Information on academic freedom and the definition of free speech.

  • A list of resources related to the First Amendment and expressive activity on campus.

  • Frequently asked questions related to the First Amendment and Penn State’s policies surrounding free speech.

  • Resources for student voting.

Members of the Penn State community are encouraged to take time to explore the new website, along with the wide variety of tools and information provided there.

As a land-grant institution, Penn State takes seriously its role in promoting and supporting free speech under the First Amendment. Freedom of expression is a bedrock principle of the University and essential to its core educational mission of disseminating ideas through research, teaching and learning.
