UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The start of the fall 2018 semester also marks the return of intramural sports, as registration for eight different IM sports opens today (Aug. 20.)
Signups for badminton, bocce, co-rec soccer, corn hole, dodgeball, softball, team tennis and tennis open at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 20 and close at 5 p.m. on Aug. 30. The seasons will begin soon after registrations close.
Intramural sports give students a competitive outlet throughout the entire academic calendar with a wide range of sports. Within each sport are a variety of different competition levels.
"From individual sports to big team intramurals, IM sports are an inclusive place for all types of students," Nick Brigati, senior assistant director for competitive sports, said. "There's truly something here for everybody."
The opening of those eight sports' registration periods marks the start of the fall 1 period. The fall 2 period starts in October and features basketball, flag football, indoor soccer, squash and ultimate frisbee.
Along with the signups on Aug. 20, there are other special events occurring throughout the fall 1 period. Those events include a pickleball tournament at the Tennis Center at noon on Sept. 16 (registration opens Sept. 3); and a battleship tournament at McCoy Natatorium at 3 p.m. on Sept. 30 (registration opens on Sept. 17).
All Intramural Sports are free to students. Faculty and staff who purchase a Campus Recreation membership are also eligible.
Registration, rosters, and schedules for all IM sports are housed at IMLeagues.com/PSU.
