UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State’s Sustainability Institute will host an event for all University students titled #sustainPSU in the HUB-Robeson Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 20.
The organization will be giving away Starbucks travel coffee mugs and branded CamelBak water bottles, while supplies last, in exchange for a Sustainability Institute social media interaction on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Students will then be asked to sign a #sustainPSU pledge.
By signing the pledge, students will promise a willingness to participate in a more sustainable lifestyle on campus. The organization is hoping that first step will be to use one of the two reusable liquid containers from the event, which will subsequently lessen the amount of items being thrown away daily by students living in the dorms or passing through for classes.
The Sustainability Institute was formed in 2013 as the result of combining multiple existing units focused on enhancing sustainability efforts at Penn State. With a mission of integrating sustainability across all of Penn State’s functions to create leaders within the various University communities, the organization is seeking to increase awareness of its presence and goals.
