Penn State, State College, Centre County recognize military community

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The local community, including State College Borough and Centre County, will join Penn State in recognizing the military community during the months of October and November.

Penn State’s Military Appreciation Week will be held from Nov. 3 through 12, in conjunction with Penn State Homecoming. The University’s Military Appreciation Week is an opportunity for the Penn State community to join in honoring service members, veterans and their families; expressing appreciation to them; and recognizing the sacrifices of Gold Star families.

This year, there are several notable and commemorative events leading up to and continuing through Military Appreciation week. Listed below are some of the events in September and October.

  • Sept. 26 – Centre County will issue a proclamation recognizing Military Appreciation for the month of November in the Centre Region from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Centre County Government Building in Bellefonte.
  • Oct. 2 – Penn State’s Office of Veterans Programs will host a career fair for all Penn State veteran, active duty and reservist students and alumni from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center.
  • Oct. 2 – State College Mayor Elizabeth Goreham will issue our second proclamation declaring Nov. 3-12 as Military Appreciation week in the State College Borough from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the State College Borough Building.
  • Oct. 5-8 – The Vietnam Veterans Traveling Memorial Well will be installed at Penn State Innovation Park. An opening ceremony will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 5. The Traveling Wall is sponsored by WPSU and community volunteers and partners.
  • Oct. 19 – Combat Women through the ages panel discussion will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the HUB Auditorium on the University Park campus of Penn State.
  • Oct. 20 – PSU Women’s Soccer Armed Forces Night at Jeffrey Field on the University Park campus of Penn State.
