Penn State to host annual Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11 in Alumni Hall

Veterans Day ceremony will begin at 11:11 am at Alumni Hall in the HUB Robeson Center. The event also will be available to stream online for those who cannot attend in person.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On Friday, Nov. 11, Penn State will host its annual ceremony to honor the sacrifice and services of veterans of the U.S. armed forces. The annual Veterans Day ceremony will take place at 11:11 a.m. in Alumni Hall in the HUB Robeson Center. The event also will be livestreamed at watch.psu.edu/MAW

The ceremony is organized by the Penn State University Veterans Organization. The event will honor Penn State veterans, as well as all who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. military across Pennsylvania and beyond. 

During the Veterans Day ceremony, the ROTC Color Guard will be in attendance along with guest speaker Rear Adm. Stephen Tedford, who is currently based at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland. Tedford is a Penn State alumnus and received a degree in aerospace engineering. He was commissioned an ensign through Navy ROTC and was designated a naval aviator in 1993. He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School and has accumulated 3,100 hours in 40 different aircraft. 

The ceremony is part of the University’s 11th annual Military Appreciation Week with celebrations honoring the University’s faculty and staff members who serve or have served in the U.S. armed forces. Additional Veterans Day events on Nov. 11 include:  

  • Employee and Student Military Service Appreciation Breakfast from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at Heritage Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center. Students, faculty and staff who currently serve or have served in the armed forces are invited to attend the breakfast, which will feature light refreshments, entertainment and networking. Registration for the breakfast is requested, but walk-ins are welcome. For additional questions, contact Sharon Lucas at VetLady@psu.edu.  

  • Student Veteran Panel from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Flex Theater in the HUB-Robeson Center and online at watch.psu.edu/MAW. Join a panel of student veterans for an open conversation focused on debunking myths and misconceptions, their student experiences, and transition into civilian life. Registration is not required. 

On Saturday, Nov. 12, the University will host its annual Military Appreciation Tailgate at the Bryce Jordan Center at 12:30 p.m. A collaboration between Penn State and Walmart, the free tailgate will feature food, entertainment, a resource fair and more for active duty, Guard and Reserve military members, veterans, and their families, as well as Gold Star families. Military members and veterans with valid proof of military service are welcome and can get complimentary tickets at the door.
