LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. — Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus and United Bank of Uniontown honored more than 250 local high school students at their annual 4.0 Club ceremony. Students represented 15 Southwestern Pennsylvania high schools, including Albert Gallatin, Belle Vernon, Bethlehem Center, Brownsville Area, California Area, Charleroi Area, Connellsville Area, Frazier, Geibel Catholic Junior-Senior, Jefferson-Morgan Junior-Senior, Laurel Highlands, Southmoreland, Turkeyfoot Valley, Uniontown Area, and Waynesburg Central.
Established in 2011, the ceremony recognizes the academic success of high school students who have completed their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior years with a cumulative grade-point average of 4.0 or higher. This year’s speakers included Lindsey Simon-Jones, interim chancellor; Daniel Pinchot, senior director of enrollment management for Southwestern Pennsylvania; David Meredith, emeritus professor of engineering; and Grace Cline, a Fayette campus project and supply chain management student and previous 4.0 Club recipient.
“Just a few years ago, I sat where you are, eager and excited about the journey ahead. Today I stand before you, not only as a testament to the opportunities provided by this campus, but as someone who shares your journey of academic excellence. Your achievement required late nights of studying, extracurricular activities, and focus. You should be incredibly proud of yourselves,” Cline said. “There will be different challenges as you prepare for college. When I chose Penn State Fayette, I decided on a familiar community that provided comfort and stability. Next year, I’ll begin an internship with the Bechtel Corporation, a defense contractor supporting the United States Navy. This campus helped me achieve this opportunity through its strong industry connections and rigorous academics. Whether you choose Penn State or a different path, I wish you nothing but success. Seize every opportunity, embrace every challenge, and remember that your journey is yours to shape.”
