UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Student parking registration for the fall 2021 and spring 2022 semesters will be available exclusively online at transportation.psu.edu on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 17, at noon (Off-campus student Commuter - SCR).
  • Wednesday, Aug. 18, at noon (Off-campus long-term storage - P43, YAS).
  • Thursday, Aug. 19, at noon (Resident student permits - B11, L22, L42, L81, L82, L83, YWH, YAS).

New West Deck permit option and fall/spring permit rate information

With the opening of the West Deck at West Campus, a new student long-term storage permit will be offered for the 2021-22 academic year. Beginning with the fall 2021 semester, the new YAS/West Deck permit will be available to all eligible students living both on and off-campus. This option will be available as a dual-semester or single-semester permit at the same rate as the Lot 43 off-campus long-term storage permit.

Rates for both fall and fall/spring permits purchased during the fall 2021 semester will remain unchanged from the 2020-21 academic year. Please note, however, that a student permit rate increase may be enacted for spring-only permits purchased beginning in January. Information on any spring semester rate increases will be shared on the Transportation Services website before the end of the fall semester, and if enacted, would not impact permits already purchased during the fall semester.

Permit eligibility

  • Active Penn State ID and Access account.
  • License plate(s) information (vehicles must be owned by the student or a member of the student's immediate family).
  • Completed at least 29.1 credits, except for commuter and graduate students.

Students who do not meet the minimum credit requirement but have extenuating circumstances that may support having access to a vehicle on campus may email parking@psu.edu for information on how to submit a formal parking request. Before doing so, however, students and their families should first review other available local and regional transportation services. Please note that parking space availability on campus will determine the number of these requests that will be accepted.

General registration

After registering online for a permit, students print a temporary permit to display on their dashboard for immediate parking. Students may return to their account to print the permit if a printer is not available when completing the registration.

Permits will be mailed to the student's local or campus address. To ensure prompt and accurate delivery, students must enter the complete address, including the street number and apartment number. Failure to notify the State College post office of a new off-campus address before registering for a permit may prevent permit delivery.

Once the permanent permit has been delivered, the printable temporary permit must be discarded, and the permanent permit displayed on the rear-view mirror of the vehicle.

With a large volume of traffic expected on the Transportation Services website at the start of the registration period, any students encountering issues are urged to avoid double-clicking or using the back button, as these actions may result in errors with your transaction. If issues arise while attempting to complete the registration, please exit the site and contact Transportation Services for assistance.

Permit upgrades

General student parking registration will not be available at the Transportation Services Office. However, students eligible for upgrades (such as select graduate assistants and student-athletes) and students with a state-issued Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) placard who wish to purchase a supplemental parking permit for core parking access must visit the Transportation Services Office to obtain these permits. General student parking registration must be completed online prior to applying for these options. Students registering for short-term and one-day permits must also register at the Transportation Services Office.

Zipcar

Before deciding to bring a vehicle to campus, students are encouraged to explore the University's alternative transportation option, Zipcar. Zipcar provides on-campus vehicles available for rent by the hour or day at two on-campus locations for convenient pick-up and return. More information on this service can be found on the Penn State Zipcar webpage.
