The new Health and Human Development Building on the University Park campus of Penn State is now complete and open. The new facility has 140,000 square feet of space, including approximately 40,000 square feet of space that was retained from Henderson Building South and renovated.
One of the many highlights of the new facility is the addition of a student commons area, which offers the opportunity for more interaction among faculty and students, a lounge area for students with wireless internet and plenty of outlets and bountiful natural light for increased occupant comfort. The facility also houses the dean’s offices, which have moved from the Henderson Building, as well as general research and classroom space.
In addition, the exterior of the building boasts a private patio along College Avenue that is accessible during the hours the building is open. Improved landscaping and a split faced limestone wall were installed along College Avenue as part of Penn State’s commitment to a positive town-and-gown relationship.
The Health and Human Development Building is the second and final phase of a plan to improve, expand and consolidate certain offices and facilities in the College of Health and Human Development along College Avenue between the Old Main and the HUB lawns.
