UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Campus Recreation will reopen for faculty, staff, affiliate, associate and retiree members on July 12 for the Intramural (IM) Building, McCoy Natatorium including the Outdoor Pool and Hepper Fitness Center. The Tennis Center expanded their operation to faculty, staff and other members earlier this month. The White Building will remain closed for recreation through the summer.
Faculty, staff, retirees and their affiliates interested in purchasing a membership can do so in person beginning on July 6 in the IM Building sales office or online registration is available beginning July 12. Members and students who wish to purchase and reserve a dedicated locker can do so at the sales office as well. Campus Recreation is unable to accommodate day passes, guests, or community members at this time. Prices for each membership are available.
“We are excited to welcome our faculty and staff colleagues back into Campus Recreation facilities,” said Laura Hall, senior director of Campus Recreation. “Now, perhaps more so than ever, supporting the wellbeing of our campus community is a critical focus for Campus Recreation.”
Equipment and capacity restrictions were lifted on June 29, for those who have been vaccinated, following the loosening of state and campus restrictions. This will result in additional cardio and weight equipment available for use, opening lane usage to multiple swimmers per lane, and expanded capacity in group fitness classes.
Activities and services like basketball, volleyball, climbing, doubles, locker rooms, showers and Shake Smart at the IM Building location are now available. A complete list of activities is available. Due to a renovation of the Equipment Checkout area, the Welcome Desk in the IM Building will temporarily house equipment for checkout, such as basketballs, foam rollers, racquets, etc.
Students and patrons who are vaccinated will not be required to wear a mask or practice social distancing inside facilities.
Several Campus Recreation program and service areas have been operational this summer. Stone Valley Recreation Center is currently open and able to accommodate watercraft rentals through credit card payment. Group Fitness classes and personal training are in full operation and outdoor gear rentals are also available. Campus Recreation will host the second session of Intramural programs for the summer with registration opening on July 6.
Former Campus Recreation members have been emailed and asked to fill out this form to acknowledge the July 12 membership restart on June 30. Previous members who wish to indicate an alternate start date or request membership cancellation can do so at that time. Members who do not complete the form by the June 30 deadline will have their membership canceled prior to the July 12 restart. New members are welcome to join Campus Recreation any time throughout the summer and can do so prior to the July 12 start date, on or after July 6.
Campus Recreation will be updating the information on its website as more programming and services become available through the summer. A complete breakdown of facility hours is available.
