Bracelets provide opportunities to engage in discussions around diversity

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As part of Penn State’s "All In" initiative, the Paul Robeson Cultural Center is encouraging students, faculty and staff to show their commitment to having conversations about diversity and inclusion by wearing colorful bracelets. The bracelets have the messages “We Are…All In” and “We Are…Inclusion & Respect.”

The goal of the Robeson Center's initiative is to further the dialogue around these topics. The bracelets give people a way to show they are open and willing to having a discussion about diversity and what it means to them. If a student, faculty or staff member sees someone wearing one of these bracelets, they are encouraged to go and talk to them — to ask questions or share their own experiences. 

“It’s important to encourage these conversations, so people understand what it means to be ‘All In,’” said Carlos Wiley, Robeson Center director. “Being ‘All In’ means making a personal commitment to opening yourself up and stepping outside of your comfort zone to engage with people that are different than you.”

Anyone interested in promoting conversations around diversity and inclusion can pick up a bracelet at the Robeson Center in the HUB.

The Paul Robeson Cultural Center, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, works to help students build character, conscience, and social responsibility through fostering identity development, inclusion, identity, and social justice.
