UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Bryce Jordan Center is not just home to the best sports and entertainment in the Centre Region but will now provide a new way to purchase select food and beverages designed to eliminate checkout lines.

The BJC will have a new themed concession stand, Pick & Roll, using Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology that allows customers to purchase beverages and grab-and-go food items with a credit/debit card and mobile payment options, then exit the store without waiting in line. It will be located between Gates B and C, near Portal 11, and will be open during all main arena ticketed events held at the Jordan Center.

“This is the result of a great collaboration with OPP, IT, and Auxiliary and Business Services to meet the needs of our ever-evolving customers,” said Al Karosas, general manager of the Bryce Jordan Center. “This is a great option to provide fans with a fast and convenient way to grab food and beverages.”

Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology is designed to be an effortless experience and eliminate checkout lines so guests will have more time to enjoy a game or show. Guests enter the store by using their credit card, and the technology detects what shoppers take from or return to the shelves. When guests have completed their shopping experience, they are able to leave the store without waiting in line, and their chosen payment method with be charged for the items taken.

Just Walk Out technology is made possible by artificial intelligence like computer vision and deep learning techniques, including generative AI, to accurately determine who took what in any retail environment. Amazon built synthetic datasets to mimic millions of realistic shopping scenarios — including variations in store format, lighting conditions, and even crowds of shoppers — to ensure accuracy in any environment.

The Bryce Jordan Center has several events scheduled for the fall, including concerts by Chris Stapleton, Mercy Me, Old Dominion and John Mulaney. Additionally, the Penn State men’s and women’s basketball teams will begin their 2023-24 seasons in November. A full list of events can be found on the Bryce Jordan Center website.
