MEDIA, Pa. — Penn State Brandywine inducted 64 students into the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) on May 5. Students in Brandywine’s inaugural class of inductees are juniors and seniors with a 2.5 GPA or above. The NSLS is the largest and only accredited leadership honor society in the nation, with more than 700 chapters and over 1.5 million members.
Penn State alumnus Shawn Manderson, Brandywine Advisory Board member and vice president of enterprise risk management at ADP, brought NSLS to the campus during the 2022-23 school year. During the ceremony, he gave advice to the inductees about being good leader.
“As a leader, you are going to be watched by those you know and those you don’t know,” Manderson said. “This is why I cannot stress to you enough that you must walk in excellence and lead from the front, never from behind.”
“Be better than good as a leader — aim for excellence. Simply being good will not make the environment or people around you better. Do not underestimate the power of courage, find the part of you that is made up of grit and always be the beacon of trustworthiness. Say what you mean and mean what you say.”
