MEDIA, Pa. — Kenneth Murphy, a Penn State alumnus and an accomplished community leader, has joined Brandywine as the new coordinator for the Center for Social Impact, effective March 17. His appointment follows a search that was chaired by Stephanie Jones, director of student affairs.
“Kenneth’s extensive experience in program development, community partnerships and strategic leadership will be a great asset as he works collaboratively to implement the center’s mission — creating pathways for students to become socially responsible leaders and engaged citizens who are prepared and motivated to create positive change in the world,” Regional Chancellor Marilyn J. Wells said. She added that he will focus the center’s efforts on its three primary goals of civic engagement, community development, and equity and human rights.
Murphy has been active in community service and holds leadership roles with Overbrook Civic Association, where he plans and coordinates youth-focused events; Columbia North YMCA, where he supports health, wellness and youth development in the local community; Make the World Better Foundation, where he leads youth and community engagement; and ACE Mentor Program of Greater Philadelphia, where he mentors aspiring high school students. He is also a founder of Courtside Connection, which uses basketball as a tool to bring people together for connection, collaboration and impact.
“As a Brandywine alumnus, I look forward to being able to intentionally deliver impact to future Brandywine students,” Murphy said. “Growing up, I was surrounded by a lot of positive figures from different walks of life. They showed me a lot, including the importance of being civically engaged.”
“I’m excited to use all my experiences to connect with our students while educating and informing them,” he added. “I want to make sure we deliver impact and that we can measure that impact.”
Professionally, Murphy previously held several roles with Vanguard serving retail clients and personal investors and was sports coordinator at the West Philadelphia YMCA.
He currently serves on the Brandywine Athletics Advancement Council, where he co-chairs the engagement committee. While a student at Penn State Brandywine, he earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology while serving as captain of the men’s basketball team. He later earned a doctorate in Christian leadership and business.
