Presentations highlight daylong U.S. Media Literacy Week Celebration

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A series of free public presentations, each focused on a different aspect of consuming news and related information, highlight a U.S. Media Literacy Week Celebration, scheduled Oct. 23 on the University Park campus.

The event is presented by the Penn State News Literacy Initiative in partnership with the Poynter Institute’s MediaWise initiative, the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE), and the News Literacy Project.

Each of the sessions will be conducted in the Bellisario Media Center and will also be streamed online.

Presentations include:

  • 9:35 a.m., “Where Did You Hear That? Exploring Our Information Sources,” presented by NAMLE.
  • 10:45 a.m., “Prebunking Election Misinformation: Analyzing Patterns in Viral Falsehoods About the 2024 Presidential Race,” presented by the News Literacy Project.
  • 1 p.m., “Stay MediaWise: Teen Fact-Checking Network’s Strategies for Detecting and Stopping Misinformation,” presented by MediaWise.
