UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A special, hour-long preview of the Penn State Powwow featuring a Native American storyteller and free pawpaw-flavored ice cream from the Berkey Creamery will be held March 27 inside the Bellisario Media Center on the University Park campus.

The free event — "A Pre-Powwow Celebration: Flavors and Stories of Indigenous Culture" — will begin at 4 p.m. in the media center, located in the west side of Willard Building.

Patrick Littlewolf Brooks, an artist, musician and storyteller who is a member of the Tuscarora Nation, will be the featured speaker. Brooks is a decorated military veteran, having served in the U.S. Army and earned three Purple Heart commendations.

The 19th annual traditional American Indian Powwow will be conducted March 29-30 at C3 Sports, located at 200 Ellis Place in State College. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

This Penn State Powwow is recognized as one of the premier family friendly events available in the State College area and has earned a national reputation as one of the finest powwows in the country. The powwow is a contemporary social gathering and celebration of community featuring American Indian drum music and songs, dance and foods, as well as American Indian vendors showing and selling their arts.

The Pre-Powwow Celebration event is sponsored by the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications and the Indigenous Connections Through Pawpaw project in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences.
