UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Two Penn State alumni, both longtime members of the media contingent covering the University’s football team who started their careers at The Daily Collegian, and two current Collegian football writers will participate in a panel discussion sharing "Stories From the Penn State Football Beat" during Homecoming weekend at Penn State.
The special event — which is free and open to the public — will be conducted at 10 a.m. Oct. 23 in the Bellisario Media Center, located in Willard Building. A coffee and conversation session will begin the event at 9 a.m. in the lobby of the media center.
Featured panelists include:
- John Black, a two-time Collegian editor who earned his bachelor’s degree from Penn State in 1962 and recently retired as editor of The Football Letter, published by the Penn State Alumni Association;
- Mark Wogenrich, who graduated from Penn State in 1990 and serves as editor and publisher of AllPennState, the Sports Illustrated site for Penn State news on the FanNation Network;
- Max Ralph, football editor of The Daily Collegian; and
- Seth Engle, football and men's basketball reporter for the Daily Collegian, who will moderate the session.
The event culminates a celebration around The Daily Collegian’s 135th anniversary conducted by the Collegian Alumni Interest Group (AIG). It is sponsored by the Collegian AIG and the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications.
The Collegian AIG promotes The Daily Collegian and Penn State among alumni and prospective and current students; provides a means for alumni and friends of The Daily Collegian to connect for personal and professional enrichment; and stimulates continued interest in The Daily Collegian experience among students and graduates.
The Collegian AIG also mentors current Collegian staffers, provides professional advice to support and sustain the student newspaper, conducts roundtable discussions among Collegian alums and current staffers for professional development, raises money in support of the newspaper, and connects Collegian alums for fellowship.
As part of the 135th anniversary commemoration, the AIG is raising funds for the student newspaper. To learn more about the Collegian AIG or register for its reunion activities, visit the AIG's website.
