Award-winning newsroom leader to address changing landscape of journalism

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist will present a free public lecture and participate in a question-and-answer session about the changing landscape of journalism at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in Foster Auditorium of Paterno Library on Penn State's University Park campus.

Peter Bhatia is the CEO of Houston Landing, a nonprofit, digital-only outlet funded by local philanthropy. He is a media veteran with 45 years of journalism experience who has overseen Pulitzer Prize-winning journalism and digital advances at news outlets across the country.

Before joining Houston Landing, he served as the editor and vice president of the Detroit Free Press. Before that he was the editor and vice president of the Cincinnati Enquirer. In addition, Bhatia previously served as director of the Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at Arizona State's Cronkite School of Journalism.

Bhatia has helped lead newsrooms that have earned 10 Pulitzer Prizes, including six in Portland, Oregon. He is a seven-time Pultizer juror and the first journalist of South Asian descent to lead a major daily newspaper in the U.S., running The Oregonian from 2010 to 2014.

He earned his bachelor's degree from Stanford University in 1975 with a double major in history and communication.
