UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Four entries from Penn State students were selected as regional winners and eight more were honored as finalists in the Society of Professional Journalists’ Region 1 Mark of Excellence Awards.
The awards recognize the best collegiate journalism in large- and small-school divisions from schools in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, central and eastern Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Penn State’s entries competed in the large-school division against other schools with an enrollment of at least 10,000 students. Winning entries advice to the national competition against winners from a dozen other regions.
Those national winners will be notified in the late spring and will be recognized at the 2023 Society of Professional Journalists convention, scheduled Sept. 28-30 in in Las Vegas.
Penn State’s winners were:

- Best All-Around Television News Magazine: “Centre County Report in Scotland”
- Arts/Entertainment/Fashion Journalism: Lynn Hall (Alicia Chang, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

- Television Sports Reporting: From Granite to Greatness (Eric Fenstermaker, Penn State's CommMedia)
