The Penn State Behrend men’s water polo team defeated Wheaton at the Erie Invitational, winning 19-8. Jack Holl, a senior from Greenwich, Connecticut, led the lions at the two-day tournament, scoring six goals against Wheaton and six more against Connecticut College.
Behrend’s soccer, cross country, tennis, volleyball and golf teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights.
Men’s soccer
- Franciscan 3, Penn State Behrend 1
Blake Cooper, a senior from Murrysville, scored in the 19th minute. Goalkeeper Anthony Scalise, a freshman from North Huntingdon, made five saves.
Women’s soccer
- Penn State Behrend 2, Grove City 1
- Penn State Behrend 3, Fredonia 1
Marlene Andrade, a sophomore from Walnut Creek, California, scored in the 86th minute against Grove City. She also scored against Fredonia. The Lions outshot Fredonia, 24-3.
Men’s cross country
- Seventeenth (of 20 teams) at the Yellowjacket Invitational, hosted by Rochester.
Lucas Boyd, a sophomore from North East, finished the 8K race in 27:43.4. He placed 58th in a field of 261 runners.
Women’s cross country
- Thirteenth (of 17 teams) at the Yellowjacket Invitational, hosted by Rochester
Lindsey Hartle, a junior from Pittsburgh, finished the 6K race in 26:15.9. She placed 129th in a field of 220 runners.
Women’s volleyball
- Penn State Behrend 3, Oswego 2
- Brockport 3, Penn State Behrend 0
- Penn State Behrend 3, Utica 1
Cadence Jones, a freshman from North East, had 18 kills and 11 digs against Oswego. She had 15 kills and a season-best 24 digs against Utica.
Men’s tennis
- Nazareth 5, Penn State Behrend 2
Jonathon Laier, a senior from Lansing, Michigan, won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Graham Louis, a freshman from Erie, won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
Women’s tennis
- Pitt-Greensburg 4, Penn State Behrend 3
Lindsey Kerlin, a sophomore from Clearfield, won at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Men’s water polo
- Connecticut College 15, Penn State Behrend 12
- Gannon 23, Penn State Behrend 5
- Penn State Behrend 19, Wheaton 8
- Mercyhurst 19, Penn State Behrend 12
Evan Blasky, a freshman from Rockford, Michigan, scored four goals against Wheaton. Goalkeeper Ethan Friedman, a junior from Valley Center, California, made 12 saves against Mercyhurst.
Men’s golf
- Twentieth (of 22 teams) at the NCAA Region V Tournament
Daniel McMaster, a senior from Murrysville, led the Lions at Manakiki Golf Course. He tied for 100th in a field of 116 golfers, carding a two-day score of 167. Owen Blum, a sophomore from Warren, followed by a stroke.
