ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s track and field team won 14 events at the Behrend Invitational on April 16. The men’s team won 13 events — including six of the field competitions.
Behrend’s baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis and golf teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:
Baseball
Penn State Behrend 4, Mt. Aloysius 2

Colin Harger, a senior from Pittsburgh, and Chase Palmer, a sophomore from Brookville, each batted 4-for-4 in the opener against Waynesburg. Each scored four runs. Pitcher Jeff Zick, a senior from Moon Township, recorded his 100th career strikeout in the opener against Mt. Aloysius.
Softball
Mt. Aloysius 4, Penn State Behrend 1

Hiram 4, Penn State Behrend 3
The Lions had seven hits — all singles — in the fourth inning of the nightcap against Mt. Aloysius. Six runners scored. Abby Tingley, a freshman from Union City, pitched a complete game.
Men’s volleyball
Geneva 3, Penn State Behrend 2
Penn State Behrend 3, St. Vincent 0
The Lions won the first two sets in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship match, but Geneva rallied to take the title. Alex Jackson, a junior from Cochranton, and Adrian Martinez, a senior from San Juan, Puerto Rico, were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Men’s track and field
Samuel Hetrick, a junior from New Bethlehem, won the high jump at the Behrend Invitational, clearing a height of 2.08 meters. He also won the 400-meter race, finishing in 51.40. Antonio Stello, a senior from Punxsutawney, won the 100-meter race, finishing in 11:33, and the 200-meter race, which he finished in 23.10.
Women’s track and field
Madison Kappeler, a junior from Cecil, won four events at the Behrend Invitational. She finished the 100-meter run in 13.17 and the 200-meter run in 27.14. She also won the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.25 meters, and the long jump, with a distance of 5.09 meters.
Men’s tennis
Grove City 8, Penn State Behrend 1
Ritvik Nadikude, a freshman from Hyderabad, India, won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-4.
Men’s golf
Eighth of 11 teams at the Wooster Invitational
Tyler Parkhurst, a freshman from Union City, led the Lions at the two-day Wooster Invitational with a final score of 121. He tied for 14th place in a field of 58 golfers.
