Behrend tennis team undefeated in AMCC action

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s tennis team defeated Pitt-Greensburg, 9-0, to remain undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play. The Lions face Westminster on April 12.

Behrend’s baseball, softball, track and field, volleyball and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Baseball

Mt. Aloysius 10, Penn State Behrend 9 (7 innings)

Baldwin Wallace 19, Penn State Behrend 3

Mac Ciocco, a junior from Venetia, batted three-for-four in the first game against Mt. Aloysius, including a triple and an RBI.

Softball

Penn State Behrend 3, Mt. Aloysius 1

Jocelyn McNany, a junior from Cranberry Township, hit a homerun in the nightcap, scoring three runs. Kayla Lindberg, a senior from Austinburg, Ohio, pitched the shutout, striking out six batters.

Men’s track and field

Dan Dabrowski, a senior from Harborcreek Township, won the discus throw at the Dave Labor Invitational at Slippery Rock. He threw a distance of 49.09 meters. Samuel Hetrick, a senior from New Bethlehem, placed second in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.93 meters.

Women’s track and field

Madison Kappeler, a senior from Cecil, tied for fourth in the pole vault at the Dave Labor Invitational at Slippery Rock. She cleared a height of 3.45 meters. Julia Balaski, a sophomore from Mercer, placed fifth in the javelin throw. She threw a distance of 35.50 meters.

Men’s volleyball

Penn State Altoona 3, Penn State Behrend 0

Penn State Behrend 3, Bethany 0

Penn State Behrend 3, Hilbert 0

Logan Hering, a senior from North East, had a game-high 12 kills, six digs and two blocks against Hilbert. Alex Jackson, a senior from Cochranton, had 21 assists, four digs, three blocks and two kills.

Men’s tennis

Penn State Behrend 9, Pitt-Greensburg 0

Luke Vunora, a freshman from Natrona Heights, won a tiebreaker at No. 6 singles, finishing 6-2, 6-7, 10-6.

Women’s water polo

Macalester 13, Penn State Behrend 7

Penn State Behrend 6, Carthage 5

Austin 20, Penn State Behrend 9

Darragh Martin, a sophomore from Green Lane, scored four goals against Austin. Olivia Wright, a senior from Fairview, added two more.
