Behrend swimmers set records at Allegheny-Empire Championships

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend swimmers set multiple records at the Allegheny-Empire Championships at Nazareth College on Feb. 15-18. Tim Compton, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, won the 500 freestyle and the 400 IM. Emma Webster, a junior from Bradford, won the 200 backstroke.

Behrend’s basketball, track and field, tennis, bowling and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

 

Men’s basketball

Pitt-Greensburg 70, Penn State Behrend 69

Alfred State 64, Penn State Behrend 61

Tommy DiRienzo, a junior from Pittsburgh, scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds against Alfred State. Stefan Milinkovic, a junior from Fairport, New York, scored 14 points against Pitt-Greensburg.

 

Women’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 81, Pitt-Greensburg 49

Penn State Behrend 83, Alfred State 59

The Lions have a bye in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament. They play the winner of Mt. Aloysius and Pitt-Greensburg on Feb. 24.

 

Men’s tennis

Penn State Behrend 9, Thiel 0

Penn State Behrend 9, Alfred 0

Ritvik Nadikude, a freshman from Hyderabad, India, won twice at No. 1 singles. He finished 6-1, 6-2 against Thiel and 6-0, 6-2 against Alfred.

 

Men’s swimming and diving

Third (of 10 teams) at the Allegheny-Empire Championships

Will Perham, a freshman from Upper St. Clair, won the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 57.84, and the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:06.49.

 

Women’s swimming and diving

Third (of 10 teams) at the Allegheny-Empire Championships

Emma Webster, a junior from Bradford, won the 200 backstroke with a team-record time of 2:10.61. Julia Sank, a junior from North East, was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference diver of the year.

 

Men’s track and field

Samuel Hetrick, a junior from New Bethlehem, won the high jump event at the Wittenberg Invitational, clearing a height of 2.11 meters. He holds the top spot in the NCAA Division III rankings.

 

Women’s track and field

Olivia Nola, a sophomore from Erie, set a school record in the 3,000-meter run at the Wittenberg Invitational, finishing in 10:20.29. She placed third in a field of 38 runners.

The Lions placed third in a field of 11 teams at the AMCC Second Round Robin. They were 5-0 on the second day of the event. Mars McAninch, a freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio, bowled a 194 in the match against Medaille.

 

Women’s water polo

Wittenberg 11, Penn State Behrend 9

LaSalle 26, Penn State Behrend 6

Nic Darrell, a sophomore from Perkasie, scored seven goals over two matches on the first day of the Curtis Robinette Memorial Invite. Sarah Mancebo, a junior from Tulare, California, made eight saves against Mercyhurst.
