Behrend swim teams win AMCC matchups against Penn State Altoona

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s swimming and diving team opened Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action with a win over Penn State Altoona on Dec. 7, finishing 154-116. The women’s team also won, 181-90.

Behrend’s basketball, track and field, and wrestling teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 79, Pitt-Greensburg 72

The game featured 12 lead changes and five ties. Tommy DiRienzo, a senior from Pittsburgh, led the Lions with 21 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds.

Women’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 93, Pitt-Greensburg 62

Julia Balaski, a junior from Mercer, scored 14 points. Morgan Altavilla, a junior from Pittsburgh, scored 13 points.

Men’s track and field

Ryan Festa, a senior from Horsham, won the pole vault event at the Mount Union Toy Drive Invitational, clearing a height of 4.48 meters. Derek Hillhouse, a senior from Erie, placed second in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.87 meters.

Women’s track and field

Ivy Laffan, a senior from Waterford, placed second in the 500-meter dash at the Mount Union Toy Drive Invitational. She finished in 1:26.09. Madison Kappeler, a senior from Cecil, tied for second in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.26 meters.

Men’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 154, Penn State Altoona 116

Tim Compton, a senior from Pittsburgh, won the 200 freestyle (1:47.46) and the 100 breaststroke (1:01.16). Anthony Tumino, a junior from Hershey, won the 50 freestyle (21.43) and the 100 freestyle (48.16). Glenn Fowkes, a sophomore from Vandergrift, won the 50 backstroke (24.87) and the 100 backstroke (54.16). Ryan Willis, a junior from State College, won the 50 breaststroke (28.55) and the 100 individual medley (55.95).

Women’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 181, Penn State Altoona 90

Camryn Watters, a sophomore from Greensburg, won the 50 freestyle (26.04) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.33). Logan Wilson, a freshman from Hermitage, won the 1,000 freestyle (11:38.21) and the 500 freestyle (5:42). Kallie Smith, a freshman from Oil City, won the 200 freestyle (2:04.91), the 100 freestyle (56.59) and the 100 individual medley (1:03.47). Jadyn Danylko, a junior from Erie, won the 50 butterfly (28.40).

Wrestling

Twelfth (of 14 teams) at the RIT Invitational

Nolan Fenton, a sophomore from Kersey, placed fifth in the 197-pound weight class, earning two technical falls and pinfalls. Konnor Tubin, a freshman from Pewaukee, Wisconsin, placed fifth in the 174-pound class, with wins by major decision.
